No Nonsense Marketing From Doug Prentice

Trying to explain what I've learned about internet marketing

Helen asks…

How do you know how much traffic you get on your website/blog???

I have just created a blog.PLease visit here once:

http://www.computer-mpire.blogspot.com/

I have read many arcticles which say that they get 20-30 or 100-150 peoples visitng their site a day. My question is HOW DO THEY KNOW THAT????
Please help me…i also want to know my site traffic.
REMEMBER I WANT “FREE” ALTERNATIVES……so give me answers that hae nothing to do with money.

Doug Prentice answers:

You have several Free services (that also offer a ‘paid version’ with more reporting possibilities) like for example:

http://www.statcounter.com

They explain everything on their site and even have a
‘Live Demo’.

(That’s a good one that – even in the ‘Free Version’ – also lets you make interesting stats, although I currently mainly use an other one myself.)

There you can get a little HTML-code that you can paste into your blog.

All the Best,

How do you Promote Clickbank With Articals, Blogs And Squidoo?

I’ve been Studying Internet Marketing for a Good year now And Never Seemed to get no Where. I just don’t know How to Combind it all and make it all Work. I hear you Write a Review and Articals on your Blog And Write Articals And Submit Them to directorys And point it back to your Blog And Squidoo But How Do you combind it Like I know You’re suppose to submit The same Articals on your Blog And Squidoo to Directorys But I heard That People Don’t want ot Read the Same Thing over And over Again.

Doug Prentice answers:

Internet marketing is a complicating process, but the main goal is to point viewers to your website/goods/services. Each article, reviews you write should be original work, which mean you should not be posting the same articles and reviews to other directories. You can get black listed by the search engines if you do that! How it’s supposed to work is that with an article, you tweak it. You change a few phrases, paragraphs, and change the format around to make it look like an original piece. After you make some changes, make sure to input at least two to three links that back-links to your homepage within the body of the article or within your bio box. This is IMMENSELY important because this is how you create traffic to your website/service/goods through your article. This is just one part of online marketing called “Article Marketing.” Good luck! =)

Betty asks…

what are the web site attributes to an internet marketing strategy?

Doug Prentice answers:

Interesting question! Common attributes to me are attraction mechanisms and capture mechanisms. In other words, attracting readership and then creating calls to action via responses and subscriptions. Attracting readership is a challenge – your online participation has to be completely oriented towards your target audience. I just started using a company called hubpot.com. They are all about internet marketing and I think they’re redefining it in a way.

George asks…

How long does it take for google to recognize backlinks?

Hi,

I have recently launched a new website. I just want to know how long does it take for Google to recognize backlinks to my site. I am currently generating backlinks by posting on different forums, blog commenting and directory submission. It has been a week now but still there are 0 backlinks to my site according to Google.

Yahoo is relatively quicker than Google in recognizing backlinks. Does anyone have any idea how long does it take for Google to recognize backlinks to my website?

Doug Prentice answers:

If your backlinks come from good quality (good according to Google) sites then only Google lists them and better quality links take very less time to appear I have seen Google pick up links for my site in less the 4 days. Normally, it will take about 1-2 weeks to get the effect of your backlinks. However, if you can get backlinks from high traffic pages or sites, Google normally used to visit those sites very frequently.

Google doesn’t list every backlink to your website, but Yahoo does. That’s why you think Yahoo is quicker. But I believe that Google is faster than Yahoo in indexing websites, so happened to me. If your links are listed in Yahoo, sure Google knows about them, but it may not list them. Use Social Bookmarking sites which all are high quality sites according to Google. Also when you bookmark your website with Social Bookmarking sites you will find most of them are authority sites which will get backlinks very quickly.

George asks…

First 24 hours how do you market your website FREE to get traffic to it?

I am not only looking for Free ways to market my website, but ways that really work in sending traffic please…not much money starting out!

Doug Prentice answers:

1. Write and submit articles . This will create traffic for years to come. Write quality unique articles, not articles that provide no substance for readers.

2. Submit ads to a high pagerank and high traffic Classified ad site such as USFreeads.

3. View related products on Amazon.com. You can try and take some customers from your competitors here by providing your own url if the product is similar.

4. Review websites in your niche on Alexa to try to take some of their traffic by including a reference back to your site.

5. Comment on other related blogs, but do not spam.

6. If you purchase a product that you actually like, then leave a testimonial. Leave your url in your testimonial and you should receive some traffic.

7. Whenever you send an email to someone, include your website url as a signature.

8. Keep updating content on your websites/blogs… try at least once per week, if not twice.

9. Tag blog posts at social bookmarking sites. Sign up to Onlywire.

10. Add pictures to your blog with appropriate keywords.

Nancy asks…

backlinks ?

is there any backlink software available for free that filters out the nofollow websites? I mean, and automatically finds the dofollow ones and automatically posts a comment you write and a link to your website on all of them.
black hat is far different from hacking, it’s marketing in a partially dishonest way

Doug Prentice answers:

I don’t know if there exist such a software, and I believe that’s considered to be spamming. If I don’t know the answer that doesn’t mean others don’t. There is a website called Black Hat World. It’s actually a forum where you will probably find that kind of software, although maybe not for free.

Jenny asks…

What is the best way to increase web traffic to my site?

I have a website, http://www.wealthsearch.org that offers dozens of free articles on creating wealth, as well as analysis of some popular “creating wealth” business models. So far raffic has been decent, but I would like to see a significant increase in visitors. I’m working to update and add material almost daily, but could use some ideas. Thanks in advance.

Doug Prentice answers:

First you may want to think of people you would like to affiliate with because that could be very helpful and next have a SEO (search engine optimization) done on your website so the engines pick up the key words. Thank for the site through bookmarking the site.

I guess at this time of year it always seems appropriate to make a list of resolutions and a business plan for the coming year. While both are very important it’s so easy to get carried away with promises and plans that we’ll never meet.

I know that many gurus will preach that you have to make big plans to make big achievements but looking back at my (lack of) achievements in 2010 I’m planning for modest success in 2011.  How am I going to go about achieving this modest success – why, by making modest plans.

My plan for 2011 is built on both what I did achieve in 2010 and also what I didn’t achieve that year. For example I did learn a lot last year about how to make ebooks to sell on eBay. Did I actually do anything with that info – NO! What am I planning this year? Well from the amount of good quality PLR material that I have I have no excuse for not making products. So far I have three ready to roll with the autorun CDs already made, sales pages created, eBay listings created, all materials, graphics etc in place. My target is to have at least 100 ebooks running by the end of 2011. Seems a lot but it’s only 2 per week.

My major thrust for 2011 is to build my list and most of my efforts will be dedicated towards that end:

Ebooks on eBay – 2 per week

Giveaway Sites – 2 per month (budget $15 per month)

Article Marketing – 2 articles per week

Blog Carnivals – 1 per month

Blog – at least every 2 weeks

Now none of those on their own are money earners  but hopefully spin off promotions, affiliate links and upgrades will bring something in.

Most of all for 2011 I will try, try, try and try not to be distracted by new magic buttons.

What I already have is more than enough to start to make things happen. I have made a list of the stupid things I did last year (not to made public) and I will look at this every time I feel the urge to click the BUY NOW button.

Similarly I’m reviewing all my current paid memberships and any I have not used regularly are being cancelled. If it’s not been used it probably won’t be used in the future. Good intentions never put any dosh in the bank!

Well that’s all for now. As and when I find fresh new free stuuf that looks that it might be of help I’ll post the details here.

Until then, wishing you all the best for a productive and profitable 2011.
